Some of you may have read my update mentioning this story. for those who didn't this is a zombie story (well duh) It is completely outrageous, with almost nothing that could fit into the realms of truth and reality. Set in a alternate universe were every person and their three year old child has a gun. Houses are out-fitted with revolving gun turrets and machine guns and nothing is too strange.
It is also rather silly and comedic but I put it here because of the zombies. There is also quite a lot of heavy swearing, particually at the beginning, so be warned. If anyone is really offended I'll modify it.
Liona’s mind was completely blank, if someone had looked inside her brain at that exact moment they would have absolutely nothing; then if they kept looking they would have seen: Holy Shit.
“Holy shit!” was the first thing she said as she stared at the zombie that was shuffling towards her, “HOLY FUCKING SHIT!” she yelled, dodging away as the zombie came closer, arms outstretched and mouth gaping open, “WHY IS THERE A FUCKING ZOMBIE AT THE SHOPS?!” screaming from behind her enlightened her to fact that there were more zombies and the other people had seen them.
“Oh my God, oh my God, that’s a zombie!’ RIna was a little more restrained than her best friend as she backed away from the zombie, only to shriek and leap away in surprise when another came up behind her. Ari heard an ominous clicking sound and ducked just before there was a loud bang and the zombie’s head exploded! She glanced behind her to see Liona with her favourite hand gun, her 9mm Glock pointing in front of her, her long blonde hair flying around her head and her blue eyes blazing.
“STAY THE FUCK AWAY FROM MY BEST FRIEND!” Liona screeched before swinging around to the zombie nearest to her, she fired again and the zombie fell with a splat, “AND YOU STAY THE FUCK AWAY FROM ME AS WELL!” she yelled at the twitching zombie.
The screaming increased as more and more zombies turned up, screaming that was punctuated with cracks and bangs as people began fighting back.
Rina drew her own gun, a Smith & Wesson .38 Chief’s Special, pushed her shoulder-length brown hair out her face and started to rummage around in her handbag for her box of bullets while muttering, “There are zombies in the shops, there are zombies in the shops, I can’t believe it; there are frickin’ zombies in the shops!”
A shriek from Liona and a strange groaning near her caused her to look up and gasp in horror and surprise as she saw a zombie barely a metre away from her. She glanced quickly at Liona but she was in the middle of dodging a bunch of zombies while reloading and couldn’t do anything. Rina knew that there was no way she could load, aim and fire her gun before the zombie got to her. She was faintly annoyed she was going to be killed by a zombie, it was just so…gross!
She stared at the zombie, her hazel eyes wide, determined not to close her eyes, so she saw the exact moment when the zombies head exploded, sending gunk everywhere. As the rest of its body fell to the floor Rina saw a familiar face grinning down at her from over the barrel of a shotgun.
“NICK A LITTLE HELP OVER HERE!!” Liona screamed from where she was surrounded. The teen’s grinned widened as he swung his SPAS-12 shotgun round to fire and send one of the monsters squelching to the ground. An action that was accompanied by another screech from Liona, “GAHHH YOU IDIOT YOU JUST GOT ZOMBIE GOO ALL OVER ME! AND YOU LOT GET THE FUCK AWAY FROM ME!” several more shots from both her and Nick sent the remainder of the zombies back to death.
Liona then wandered over to where Nick and Rina were, cursing and swearing about the muck that now covered her clothes, which consisted of jeans, a quite pretty top and a leather jacket. Rina was also wearing jeans with a hoody jacket. Nick was wearing cargo pants with a loose fitting top.
All around them people were running and screaming or shouting and firing. Glass covered the floor as windows were smashed by zombies and wayward bullets. Bullet shells littered the floor as did broken and ripped stock from many stores. The zombies shuffled everywhere outnumbering the shoppers several to one, with the numbers rising constantly. Zombie corpses were everywhere and there were several corpses of the previously living as well.
“So how are we today ladies?” Nick asked, taking aim over Liona’s shoulder and shooting a zombie who was trying to feast on a woman’s brains.
“Fabulous, absolutely fabulous, never been better, great, wonderful, THERE ARE FRICKING ZOMBIES AT THE SHOPS, WHAT SORT OF QUESTION IS THAT?!” Liona, not the most calm and patient person at the best of times was going nuts causing to Rina to sigh as she loaded her gun and fired at a zombie that Liona was too busy swearing and yelling to notice coming towards her. The bang of Rina’s gun bought her temporarily back to reality as she emptied her gun into another just as Nick took another three down in quick succession.
Rina began rummaging around in her handbag again and Liona looked at her in disbelief, “please don’t tell me you’ve run out of bullets!” she said. Rina gave her a look.
“No actually I’m looking for my phone so I can call my mum and make sure she’s ok!’ Liona paused, as another zombie came up behind Rina.
“Oh…yeah. I should do that-OI GET AWAY FROM HER YOU MOTHERF-” the bang from her gun thankfully drowning out the rest of her sentence.
“-med and able to fight please proceed to the central help desk. I repeat, can patrons who are armed and able to fight please proceed to the central help desk.” The announcement over the PA system caught their attention and Nick and Liona grinned at each other. Rina saw their reaction and sighed, standing up and reloading her gun.
“Let me guess, you two want to go and find out what they want.” Liona grabbed her hand and began dragging her off in the direction of the central help desk, firing at any zombie that she could see. Nick followed them, also firing at zombies.
“Of course I want to go, with any luck they’ll want us to hunt the zombies down!” Liona’s grin was savage as another zombie lost its head to her accurate shooting.
“With any luck?” Rina repeated trying to shoot a zombie but missing as Liona dragged her along, jerking her off balance, luckily her bullet hit another zombie.
“Its been ages since I got to have a decent shoot out. I really wanna shoot something!”
“You’ve been shooting a lot of somethings here today.” Nick said reasonably waving to a mate who was crouched under the stairs taking pot shots at any zombie that he could see, he waved back, fired one-handed and ended up on the floor with the recoil.
“Yes, yes I know that and I'm really enjoying myself! But I want more!” Liona ducked as a bullet flew over her head, shattering a nearby shop window, “HEY!” she shrieked at the shooter, “DO WE LOOK LIKE ZOMBIES TO YOU?!” the kid, no more than twelve or thirteen looked horrified.
“I'm so sorry, really I am, I was aiming at that zombie over there.” Liona looked at the zombie, back at the boy then shot the zombie without looking back at it.
“WHAT THE HELL?!” Liona screamed, “How the Hell could you miss! It’s not like zombie’s are big when it comes to lightning quick movement!”
“I only recently got my gun, I’m not a very good shot yet.” The boy screamed as a zombie reached for him, he shot widely and took out a light. Nick smiled patiently and took the zombie out with casual ease.
“NO SHIT SHERLOCK!” was Liona’s loud response, her gun clicked, empty, as she fired again, “oh shit,” she muttered, reaching into her bag for another clip. Rina took out the zombie as Liona slammed the new clip into her gun.
“Maybe you should leave the fighting to those who can shoot well.” Rina told the boy who nodded vigorously and ran off.
“Hey! I just found my other Glock! I thought I’d lost it!” Liona exclaimed happily pulling another gun from her the bottom of her bag as well as several more clips, “Yay, this will make life easier!”
Rina sighed and shook her head, “How do you lose a gun as big as that in a bag?”
Liona declined to answer as they rounded the corner and came to the central help desk.
“Welcome, I presume you three here is response to the PA announcement?” A lady in her late twenties, early thirties greeted them, in one hand she had a clipboard and pen and in the other a large .45 Desert Eagle. “Please write you name here,” she said handing Nick the clipboard as she fired over Liona and Ari’s shoulders.
They wrote their names and handed the clipboard back to the lady just as she pointed her gun right at Liona. The teen ducked as the lady fired and they all heard the distinctive sound of a zombie losing its head. They wandered past the lady to join the rest of those gathered.
“Can I have your attention please,” A man was standing on the help desk trying to get all those who had gathered there’s attention. He fired his gun into the ceiling but no one paid any attention, yet another gunshot was not something to be noted.
“Oh for pete’s sake, “ Liona muttered, she pushed her way forward and hopped up next to the man, giving him a withering look. “You really think a simple gunshot will get their attention? Especially with all that’s happening?” She pointed both her guns to the ground, picking a spot were there weren’t any people. She then fired several shot into the ground causing people to yell and swear in shock, “OI YOU LOT LOOK OVER HERE!”
Everyone’s focus immediately swung around as Liona jumped down off the counter, leaving the man the unwilling centre of attention.
“Erm thank you, I think.” The man said as Liona pushed her way back through the crowd to Rina and Nick. Rina gave her a disgusted look and mouthed Childish at her; Liona just grinned and turned her attention back to the man.
“Now we have been told that these zombies are from the local military research facility where something has gone wrong. We are unsure whether this is a localised problem or widespread; however we do know that almost the entire city is covered in zombies. We have no procedure for dealing with this but I’m sure that all of you will be able to manage!” he paused as the crowd cheered and grinned at each other, showing their confidence. “Firstly we would like you to help each other to rid this shopping centre of zombies, when you have done that please take to the streets with all the weaponry and help you can gather. Thank you for your attention and help. Good hunting.”
With a roar the crowd dispersed, heading off in small groups. Some took positions in corners or over balconies and snipered the zombies, others simply roamed the shops and shot any zombie they could see. Already the shops were clearing off those who weren’t armed and soon the only ones left were the zombies and the fighters.
Liona, Rina and Nick chose the latter option, roaming around and casually shooting all the zombies they could.
With all the people it took just over an hour to completely clear the shops of the undead. More shop windows had been shot out and the floor was covered in zombie corpses.
“So ladies, shall we head out onto the streets and rain Hell on these living dead?” Nick said as they picked their way through the oozing mess that was the remains of the zombies.
“Oh yeah sounds good!” Liona grinned!! Rina sighed and nodded, deciding it was just easier to go along with the ride. She had rung her mother and found that she was safe, her little sister guarding the house with the families mounted machine gun. Knowing that her family was safe meant that she could focus more on helping her friends stay alive. She glanced at the other two and decided that she would have her work cut out for her. Especially with Liona.
They stepped out of the shops and had a look around. The carpark was trashed, more zombie corpses covering the ground, several cars had crashed and most were covered in bullet holes.
The sky was darkening and the streetlights were starting to flicker on.
“What time is it?” Liona asked, she had pulled out her mobile phone and was staring at its back screen. She pulled of the back cover and discovered that zombie goo had leaked in, something that was clearly no good for it. “Hmm, wonder if the insurance will cover this?”
“Quarter to six.” Nick said pulling out his own phone; his watch had suffered a similar fate to Liona’s phone.
“Not a lot of really useful daylight left, what’ll we do?” Rina asked as they headed through the carpark and out onto the streets.
“We’ll need to prepare ourselves. I need more ammo, and if we’re heading through the streets I’ll need a different gun. Not to mention torches and a bag without bullet holes.” She grimaced at her own hole ridden bag, “I’d also like a weeklong shower but I think I'm going to have to be satisfied with the guns and ammo.”
“Why don’t we head home and get ourselves prepared then meet back here in an hour or so?” Rina suggested. The other two nodded and they spit up, hurrying off to their houses.
Liona was almost turned to Swiss cheese as she arrived at her house. Her mum was sitting in the revolving gun turret that was mounted on their roof and it took her a moment to recognise her daughter.
“Hi mum!” Liona yelled as run into the house, dead-locking the door behind her. She ran into her room as she yelled up to her mum, “where’s dad and Chris?”
“I'm here.” Came the yelled answer from her dad from the front of her house. “BRACE YOURSELVES!” he yelled suddenly.
“What? Why? AHHHHHHH!” Liona screeched as there was a huge bang followed by the ground shaking.
“Sorry,” her dad yelled when the ground had stopped shaking, “grenades, useful when they start bunching up.”
Liona grabbed a bag from her cupboard and began shoving stuff into it; torches, ammo, another phone and a couple more guns. She then took down her P-90 SMG off the shelf, checked that it was loaded and the safety off and ran out of her room.
“MUM, DAD! I’M GOING OUT!” she yelled to her parents, peering out the front window to see if the coast was clear.
“Where?” her dad asked, sticking his head out from her parents’ bedroom, taking a break from where he was assembling his grenade launcher.
“Rina, Nick and me are going to kill some zombies!”
“Give Chris a call, he’s out somewhere, he might be able to give you a hand.” Her mum yelled.
“Ok. Give me some cover fire while I leave.” She opened the door and edged out, closing it behind her. She stood with her back pressed against it as her mum rained her on all the nearby zombies. She heard a muted yell from her dad and braced herself as a grenade went flying out the window and landed in the middle of the street. There was a slight pause then a deafening bang as the ground began to shake again with the force of the explosion.
Liona took off at a run while the ground was still shaking, dodging flaming flying zombies. She slowed to a jog once past the blast zone, grabbed her phone and called her elder brother.
When she got back to the shops Nick was already there and she Rina arriving from the opposite direction. She and Rina stopped to catch their breath for a moment before they all nodded to each other and headed off.
“My brother will be meeting us in about ten minutes at the deli near here. He’s driving the Ute, which should make things far easier and fun!” Liona said with a slightly maniacal laugh. She had her P90 on full automatic and was spraying short bursts of bullets into the zombies that she could see.
“Oh I’m sure.” Rina’s reply was dripping with sarcasm which Liona ignored. Rina had a MP7 SMG slung over her should but she didn’t bother to use it, content to let her best friend and Nick have all the – in their words – fun.
Nick was armed with the biggest cliché of them all: an AK-47 and was literally tearing the zombies apart with the amount of bullets he was pouring into them.
They arrived at the deli – which had been turned into a mini fort by the owners – just as a Ute driven by Liona’s older brother Chris came screaming round the corner in a shower of zombie guts.
The Ute had a big bull bar and a metal plate protruding from the bonnet to stop debris (currently zombies) from smashing the windscreen as he charged through yet more zombies. One side was riddled with bullet holes and was sporting the currently trendy look of zombie muck and brains.
With the screech of tyres the Ute came to a stop next to them. They looked around as Chris casually climbed out. He was dressed in the usual outfit of jeans and a t-shirt, complete with M92F Beretta under the left arm and a couple of extra clips than he normally had under the right.
"Geez, you guys look like shit, zombie shit to be precise" he said with a grin, his sister ignored the comment, despite how true it was.
The three of them were a mess. All three were covered in zombie muck and had a few minor injuries. Liona was bleeding from a couple of wounds, one from where a stray bullet had grazed her upper left arm and another from where a window had shattered next to her, and a piece of glass had sliced her cheek. Rina was limping after being knocked down by a zombie and crashing into a shelf, the fall twisting her ankle. Her leg was also bleeding from the same fall when she had smashed into a glass bottle. Nick was bleeding from a gash on the back of his head from when the window had shattered. He had then been knocked down by a zombie onto the glass causing several cuts along his back.
"Hop on," Chris said as he slid back behind the wheel.
“This should be fun!” Liona exclaimed! Chris looked at her as though her brains had fallen out; which in the current situation was actually not as impossible as it usually was. He shook his head and strapped himself into his seat.
The three clambered up and got themselves comfortable, Liona on the right, Nick on the left and Rina in the middle, storing their gear in the metal box that ran the width of the tray against the cabin. The box was already stocked up with several guns, a lot of ammo and various other make-shift weapons, including baseball bats, cricket bats and golf clubs.
With another screech of the tyres Chris swung the car around and barrelled down the street, causing shrieks and yells from his passengers and earning him a yelled rather colourful description from his sister.
They drove along, turning down almost any street that wasn’t residential; most houses were well defended. Liona was firing over the cabin, ducking every now and then as a zombie bounced up the bonnet and over her head. Nick was leaning over the side spraying zombies with bullets. Rina had taken up a position next to Liona, a baseball bat in her hand, whacking zombie heads clear of their bodies as they passed. Chris was driving mostly one-handed, his right hand out the window, firing when he could.
They had been out for almost an hour when a shuffling noise behind them made the three friends in the back turn. They looked back as a zombie managed to climb onto the back of the Ute.
“Well now, that’s certainly impressive.” Liona remarked, eyebrows raised. Nick swung his AK-47 around in a wide arc, almost taking off her head as she reached into the box for more ammo which earned him an evil hiss from the girl.
“Think fast, dochefag,” his grin was feral as he filled the zombie with bullets. The zombie staggered backwards with the force and fell with a splat off the Ute.
“That was just a bit of overkill Nick,” Rina said as she swung her baseball bat in a graceful arc, taking off the head of a zombie that was next to the Ute. The forward momentum of the Ute aiding her swing.
Nick grinned as he and Liona swung back around to face the front.
The four of them spent the next several days out hunting zombies, returning home in the early hours of the morning to catch some sleep and restock themselves; adrenaline keeping them going far longer than they would usually have been able to.
The military were curiously silent, the reason becoming apart when hunters found all the local bases and facilities abandoned.
All over the world the zombies roamed, and all over the world people fought back. Causalities were surprisingly few, not many people had been killed by the zombies, in fact more had been accidentally killed by those fighting back.
For almost a year zombies roamed before they were finally wiped out, although the occasional one would still pop up in the strangest places.
Eventually a reason for the disaster was given; military researchers had been trying to develop a new bio-weapon and somehow managed to reverse engineer the dead in the process.
The world clean up took even longer, despite how many people pitched in. Nowhere was ever the same again as people rebuilt things to their own liking.
Throughout all this time Liona swore that she had never had so much fun, and almost regretted that it had ended. A strange look from her brother, a nod of agreement from Nick and a exasperated shake of her head from Rina; her friends only reactions.
Im sorry about the ending. I always find it hard to end stories.
It is also rather silly and comedic but I put it here because of the zombies. There is also quite a lot of heavy swearing, particually at the beginning, so be warned. If anyone is really offended I'll modify it.
